Sprite

Sprites are a class of supernatural beings that appear in Narnia as part of the White Witch's assembled army. They are mentioned among the ranks of evil creatures summoned by the Witch through her wolf captain, Fenris Ulf, to gather at the Stone Table for the confrontation with Aslan. The Sprites are listed alongside other malevolent entities such as Cruels, Hags, Incubuses, Wraiths, Efreets, Orknies, Wooses, and Ettins, forming a grotesque and terrifying host that surrounds the sacrificial site under the moonlight. Their presence underscores the breadth of the Witch's dominion over dark and chaotic forces, as she commands not only corporeal monsters but also ethereal and mischievous spirits. The Sprites are part of the rabble that jeers and torments Aslan after he is bound and muzzled, contributing to the atmosphere of cruelty and mockery that precedes his death. Their inclusion in the narrative emphasizes the moral polarization of Narnia, where even the most elusive and capricious beings are aligned with either the Witch's oppressive winter or Aslan's liberating spring. After Aslan's resurrection and the breaking of the Witch's wand, the Sprites, like the rest of her forces, are either killed in battle or flee, their power dissolved with the defeat of their mistress. They serve as a narrative device to illustrate the depth and variety of evil that must be overcome for Narnia to be restored.
